The 2nd Panzer Division was one of Germany's first armored divisions, formed in October 1935 as part of the new German Army. Because many of the division's personnel came from Austria, the unit was often called the "Vienna Division." The 2nd Panzer was much traveled, and would fight in the Polish campaign, the Balkans, Soviet Union, and France.
